Rajshahi University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Golam Sabbir Sattar has proclaimed verbally to discharge assistant proctor Liaqat Ali over the death of student Mahmud Habib alias Himel after a truck hit him inside the campus.
Soon after the news of Himel’s death spread out the campus the student burst into anger, held a demonstration till 2am last night.
They later postponed the movement till Wednesday morning after placing 7-point demand in black and white.
Meanwhile, Himel’s body was taken to the Fine Arts faculty. Keeping there for some time, the body was taken to the central mosque premises for namaz-e-janaza around 10.15am.
“After the funeral prayer, the body will be taken to his home at Kapuria Patti in Natore,” RU public relations officer Pradeep Kumar Pandey said.
Another student, Rayhan Pramink, was injured in the incident and now undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Rayhan has been given necessary medical treatments and now he is out of danger, RU associate professor Kanak Kumar Pathak said quoting physicians.
Mahbub Habib Himel, a 4th-year student of the Fine Arts faculty, was killed inside the university campus a truck hit his motorcycle.
The incident took place in front of the Habibur Rahman residential hall at RU on Tuesday around 9pm.
