The Department of Media and Mass Communication (MMC) at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) organized a seminar on Tuesday, at the Media Studio of the university.
Prof Dr Md Abdur Rahman, Pro Vice-Chancellor of AIUB, spoke to the seminar titled `The Trends of Contemporary Journalism: Local Global Interactions` as the chief guest.
The Pro VC highlighted the transformative impact of technology on various industries while expressed his stress regarding the necessity for academia to embrace this change and equip graduates with a new set of skills to thrive in the evolving landscape.
He emphasized the critical role of educators in preparing students for the challenges posed by changing industry dynamics.
Shahed Mohammad Ali, Editor of Kaler Kantho, delivered a presentation on how the media industry in Bangladesh are rapidly changing, putting a lot of pressure on journalists to develop new skills to survive.
Highlighting the challenges of misinformation and disinformation in social media, Mohammad Manzurul Islam, Editor in Chief and CEO of DBC News TV, explored the trends in contemporary journalism, emphasizing the need for journalists to possess diverse skills such multitasking, digital storytelling, mobile journalism, multimedia storytelling, reads a press release.
Prof Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, expressed that events like this seminar, which serve as a bridge between industry professionals and academia, will play a pivotal role in enhancing the students` understanding of real-world applications.
