Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said, “Universities have turned into factories of jobless. State resources and talents are being wasted. Already, changes have been made in our curriculum, it is being modernized. So that unemployment is not created.”
He said this while addressing as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the two-day job fair organized by the Gazipur district administration on Saturday morning.
The minister said, “Suppose if a Deputy Commissioner (DC) appoints a peon. There are 1000 out of 2000 applications of Master’s pass. They are going to be a peon with the highest education in the university. They studied with so much hardship but it didn’t really help.”
He said, “Unfortunately, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Dr Muhammad Qudrat-I-Khuda formed the Education Commission but could not implement it. Where it was said, there is no need for general education. A handful of people will pursue higher education. Others will take technical education, vocational education that will be useful.”
Mozammel Haque said, “Every year many workers are sent abroad from our country. Going there, they get a salary of Tk 30,000-40,000. But foreign workers come to Bangladesh and get salary of lakhs of taka. Because they are skilled.”
The minister also said, “5 percent highly educated people are not available in America. Because there is no need for higher education. Those who will teach in the university, become teachers only need higher education. That is why the government has focused on vocational and technical education.”
