During a lightning storm on Tuesday morning, a huge waterspout occurred in the Gulf of Mexico, which was witnessed by Destin residents of northwest Florida.
The brother of Deputy Kyle Warf witnessed the waterspout between Matthew Boulevard and Highway 98, and the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office posted various videos of it on social media.
Although such water column is common in Florida. That area is the 'hot spot' of water column in the world. The region sees 400-500 water falls annually. Water columns are also called 'aquatic tornadoes' by experts.
The waterspouts off the coast of Destin moved away from the shore after forming, and did not harm the land.
A marine warning was issued by the National Weather Service, and it was in effect until late in the morning.
