In preparation for the upcoming Ramadan, the interim government has rolled out a plan to make fish, meat, and eggs more affordable for the people of Dhaka.

The initiative will focus on 25 specific locations across the city, with special attention given to areas that saw high levels of public participation during the July Revolution.

During a press briefing at the Secretariat on Monday, Farida Akhter, the interim government‍‍`s advisor on fisheries and livestock, shared the details.

From the first day of Ramadan until the 28th day, a variety of essential animal products like dressed broiler chicken, eggs, pasteurized milk, and beef will be available at affordable prices through mobile sales across Dhaka.

Outside the capital, similar products including mutton will be offered at subsidized prices in other parts of the country.

The prices for these items are:

  • Dressed broiler chicken: 250 Taka per kg
  • Pasteurized milk: 80 Taka per liter
  • Eggs: 114 Taka per dozen
  • Beef: 650 Taka per kg

In addition to the 25 prioritized locations in Dhaka, where the government will focus its sales efforts, the plan also includes areas with large low-income populations, like slums, ensuring that those who need it the most will have access to these affordable products.

Farida Akhter mentioned the sales targets, which include 60,000 eggs, 6,000 liters of pasteurized milk, 2,000 kg of dressed broiler chicken, and 2,000 to 2,500 kg of beef each day during the Ramadan period.
