6.5 magnitude strong earthquake hits Japan

Japan was shaken by a strong earthquake. The Ishikawa Prefecture of that country was shaken by a magnitude 6.5 earthquake today on local time. The Japan Met Agency said that no tsunami will be generated as a result of this earthquake. However, the sea surface wave height around Ishikawa Prefecture may increase up to 10 cm.

According to Japan Times report, the earthquake occurred at 2:42 pm local time. Its origin was the southern tip of Ishikawa Prefecture on the Noto Peninsula on the Sea of ​​Japan, which is located 300 kilometers northwest of Tokyo, the capital of Japan. The earthquake originated at a depth of 12 km from the surface.

Police in the city of Suzu, in Ishikawa Prefecture, said the city was very close to the epicenter of the earthquake. As a result, several people were reported injured in the city. Police also said several buildings in the city collapsed.

Earlier, a strong earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck northeastern Japan on the evening of March 28. At that time, the earthquake hit the country‍‍`s Aomori prefecture.
