At least 25 people were killed and 27 others injured after a passenger bus overturned on the outskirts of Kabul early Wednesday, officials confirmed.
The accident occurred in the Arghandi area, as the bus carrying passengers from Helmand and Kandahar provinces was traveling toward the capital.
According to Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Mateen Qani, initial investigations suggest reckless driving caused the crash.
This latest tragedy comes less than a week after another devastating accident in western Herat province, where nearly 80 people were killed.
That incident happened late at night when a bus collided with a motorcycle and a mini-truck on the highway linking Iran to Herat city. Reports indicated that many of the victims, including women and children, were Afghan refugees returning from Iran.
Deadly road accidents are frequent in Afghanistan, often blamed on poor road conditions, reckless driving, and lack of enforcement of traffic regulations.
