Students of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) blocked the Agargaon area in the capital on Thursday to press home their three-point demand, bringing traffic to a halt and causing severe suffering for commuters.
The demonstration began around 12 p.m. under the banner of Krishibid Oikya Parishad.
Their demands include reserving all 10th-grade positions in the Department of Agricultural Extension, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), and other research institutions exclusively for agriculturists; ensuring that promotions to the 9th grade are based solely on recruitment exam results by abolishing BADC’s quota system; and issuing a government order preventing the use of the title “Krishibid” (agriculturist) by those who have not earned a degree in agriculture or agriculture-related fields.
The decision for the blockade was finalized on Wednesday night and later confirmed through the Krishibid Oikya Parishad’s Facebook group.
