Iran protesters set fire to Khomeini’s ancestral home

Iran protesters have set fire to the ancestral home of the Islamic republic’s founder Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Social media floaded with the pictures that shows part of the structure in the city of Khomein being set ablaze.

Ayatollah Khomeini was born in the house, which is now a museum that commemorates his life. Khomeini was the leader of Iran‍‍`s Islamic revolution in 1979 and served as the first supreme leader of Iran until his death in 1989, which is still marked as a day of mourning each year.

Social media videos show dozens of people cheering as the fire breaks out. However, Khomein county‍‍`s press office denied there had been any attack.

The protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini. They were fuelled by anger over the obligatory headscarf for women imposed by Khomeini.
