Iran and Israel exchanged fresh attacks on Tuesday as Tehran refused to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or accept a proposed ceasefire ahead of a deadline set by US President Donald Trump.

According to reports, Iran rejected a US-backed plan, reportedly facilitated by Pakistan, that called for an immediate ceasefire and reopening of the key shipping route, followed by broader peace talks.

Iran’s response included a set of conditions such as ending regional conflicts, ensuring safe navigation through the strait, lifting sanctions and supporting reconstruction, state media said.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military said it carried out a new wave of airstrikes targeting government-linked infrastructure in Tehran and other areas, while also intercepting incoming missiles.

Tensions have also spread beyond the two countries. Saudi Arabia said it intercepted ballistic missiles over its eastern region, with debris falling near energy facilities. Several Gulf countries, including the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, issued public safety alerts.

The Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed, disrupting global energy supply. The route handles about a fifth of the world’s oil and gas shipments, and its shutdown has pushed oil prices above $110 per barrel.

Despite growing international concern, Trump warned that failure to reach an agreement could lead to major strikes on Iran’s infrastructure, including power plants and bridges.

Iran strongly condemned the threats, with its envoy to the United Nations describing them as a violation of international law.

The conflict, which began in late February, has already caused thousands of deaths across the region, including in Iran and Lebanon, and continues to raise fears of a wider war.

With no breakthrough in talks and fighting ongoing, uncertainty remains high over the next steps in the escalating crisis.
