Iran has signaled it will not sign any agreement with the United States unless it believes the country`s core interests and rights are fully protected, as negotiations continue over a potential framework to end months of conflict.
Speaking in a video message broadcast by state television on Sunday, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Tehran would only approve an agreement after ensuring that the rights of the Iranian people are safeguarded.
The remarks come at a sensitive stage in talks between Iran and the United States, which have been exchanging proposals aimed at reaching a broader settlement to the war that erupted on February 28 and intensified tensions across the Middle East.
Ghalibaf also expressed skepticism about Washington`s commitments, saying Iranian negotiators remain cautious about relying on US assurances during the ongoing discussions.
