Mike Johnson has been re-elected as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.

The election took place on Friday, where he successfully won the vote in the lower house of Congress.

His victory has already been celebrated by former President Donald Trump, who expressed his support for Johnson.

According to BBC, to win the Speaker position, Johnson needed 218 votes. In the first round, he received 216 votes, while his Democratic challenger, Hakeem Jeffries, secured 215 votes.

However, three Republican lawmakers did not vote for Johnson.

Since no candidate received the required votes in the first round, the House moved to a second round of voting. In the end, Johnson triumphed, getting the 218 votes he needed with full backing from his fellow Republicans.

Jeffries, meanwhile, managed 215 votes. Another candidate received one vote.

BBC also reported that along with his re-election as Speaker, Johnson has also been sworn in as a member of the new Congress.

He represents Louisiana in the House.

Johnson was first elected Speaker back in October 2023.

After securing his second term, he said that due to President Joe Biden‍‍`s weak leadership, the United States had faced dangerous times in the past four years.

However, Johnson expressed hope that the country would now move forward, especially with former President Trump’s "America First" approach.

Trump quickly congratulated Johnson on his victory.

In a post on social media, Trump said that under Johnson‍‍`s leadership, the U.S. would benefit and thrive.
