Trump expresses dissatisfaction with Iran nuclear negotiations

US President Donald Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with Iran’s position in ongoing nuclear negotiations, even as mediator Oman said recent talks produced signs of a possible breakthrough.
 

Speaking to reporters a day after US–Iran discussions in Geneva, Trump said Tehran was unwilling to meet key US demands, repeating that Iran must not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons. 

He added that Washington wants Iran to completely halt uranium enrichment, a claim Iranian officials continue to deny is linked to any weapons programme.
 

The comments came amid heightened regional tensions, with the United States significantly reinforcing its military presence in the Middle East. 

The aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford is moving closer to Israel, while non-essential US government staff and family members have been allowed to leave Israel due to security concerns.
 

Despite Trump’s sharp tone, Oman offered a more optimistic view. 

Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi said Iran had agreed not to stockpile uranium and to convert existing reserves into fuel, steps he described as a major advance. 

He said such measures could effectively prevent Iran from developing a nuclear bomb and suggested a final agreement could be reached within months if talks continue.
 

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to visit Israel for consultations on Iran, as several countries including Germany, Britain and Canada advise caution or reduce diplomatic staff in the region. 

China and Canada have urged their citizens to leave Iran, while Britain has withdrawn embassy personnel from Tehran.
 

Washington has also increased pressure beyond the nuclear issue. 

US officials have raised concerns about Iran’s missile programme and designated Iran as a state sponsor of wrongful detentions over the jailing of American citizens. Iran insists the current negotiations should focus strictly on nuclear matters.
 

The UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, confirmed it will hold technical-level talks with Iran, urging Tehran to cooperate fully.

In Tehran, many citizens said they hoped the negotiations would ease economic hardship caused by sanctions, while also voicing deep scepticism about US intentions.
