The United Nations Security Council is set to vote on a revised resolution addressing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, after earlier proposals faced opposition from key members.

Diplomatic sources said the draft has been softened following concerns from veto-wielding countries, delaying the vote several times before it was scheduled for Tuesday.

The move comes as Iran continues to restrict access to the strategic waterway, a key route for global oil shipments, amid ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel.

According to reports, the updated draft calls on Iran to stop attacks on commercial vessels and avoid any actions that disrupt navigation through the strait.

Instead of authorising the use of force, the resolution now urges countries to coordinate defensive measures, including escorting ships, to ensure safe passage.

It also signals that the council may consider further steps if disruptions to maritime traffic continue.

The vote is expected to take place hours before a deadline set by US President Donald Trump for Iran to respond to demands or face possible military action.

The outcome of the vote could influence the next phase of the crisis, which has already impacted global trade and energy markets.
