West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sustained serious injuries after a fall within the premises of her residence, leading to her immediate transfer to SSKM Hospital for treatment. Sources from the hospital revealed that she suffered lacerations to her forehead, requiring stitches.
Trinamool`s official social media handle shared a photo displaying the injury, portraying Mamata in a distressed state. However, hospital sources clarified that she remained conscious and responsive during the medical examination.
Trinamool sources detailed the incident, stating that Mamata was walking at her Kalighat residence on Thursday when she stumbled, resulting in the injury to her forehead. Prompt action was taken to transfer her to SSKM Hospital for urgent medical attention, where she was admitted to the Woodburn Ward. Although her injuries are deemed severe, medical staff successfully halted the bleeding. Further diagnostic tests, including MRI and CT scans, are scheduled, with a medical board convened to oversee her treatment.
In response to the unfortunate incident, BJP State President Sukant Majumder extended wishes for Mamata`s speedy recovery, echoed by State Congress President Adhir Chowdhury. Additionally, Trinamool MP Deb from Ghatal suspended a party meeting upon learning of Mamata`s injury, opting to visit the Vishalakshi temple in Ghatal to offer prayers instead.
Trinamool`s All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee was present at Mamata`s residence during the mishap. Abhishek had returned from a meeting in Mainaguri, Jalpaiguri, and rushed to Kalighat upon receiving the news. He accompanied Mamata to SSKM Hospital, where a group of party members, including Lata Banerjee, Firhad Hakim, Shovandev Chatterjee, Mala Roy, Subrata Bakshi, and Mamata`s younger brother Babun Banerjee, gathered to support her during treatment.
The incident comes amidst political tensions within the Banerjee family, following Babun`s recent comments expressing dissatisfaction over being excluded as a candidate from Howrah South constituency in the Lok Sabha polls. Mamata publicly condemned his remarks, prompting a rift between the siblings.
