Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky’s adviser Oleksiy Arestovych has announced about his resignation from the post on Tuesday.
The resignation announcement came after a “fundamental mistake.”
The official posted a picture of his resignation letter on Facebook shortly after drawing criticism for saying during a YouTube stream that Ukraine’s air defense shot down a Russian missile in Dnipro, central Ukraine.
“I wrote a resignation letter. I want to set an example of civilized behavior: a fundamental mistake means resignation,” Arestovych wrote.
"I offer my sincere apologies to the victims and their relatives, the residents of Dnipro and everyone who was deeply hurt by my prematurely erroneous version of the reason for the Russian missile striking a residential building,” he added.
Later, the Ukrainian Air Force clarified the incident, that the apartment building was hit by a Russian Kh-22 missile, which Kyiv does not have the equipment to shoot down.
