Police arrested four people including a Chhatra League leader, on the charge of gang-raping his wife while captivating her husband in Jahangirnagar University campus.
The arrested are - Mostafizur Rahman, a student of the 45th batch of International Relations Department and Chhatra League leader of the university and Hasan Pranto of the 45th batch of the International Relations Department, Sagar Siddiqui of the 46th batch and Sabbir Hasan of the 47th batch of the Botany Department who helped him escape from Mir Musharraf Hossain hall.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops and Traffic North Division) of Dhaka District, who was recently promoted to the post of Superintendent of Police, Md. Abdullahil Kafi gave this information in a press conference at Ashulia police station on Sunday around 12 noon.
Narrating the incident mentioned in the case at the press conference, Abdullahil Kafi said that the victim and her husband live in a rented house in Ashulia. Mamunur Rashid lived in the same house as a roommate. Mamun told the victim`s husband over the phone yesterday that he will stay with his acquaintance Mostafizur Rahman at Jahangirnagar University`s Mir Musharraf Hossain Hall for a few days. Later he asked the man to come and meet him on campus. When the victim`s husband came to the campus, he was introduced to Mustafiz and Murad in a room of the hall. At one stage, Mamun told the victim`s husband that they would get some money from an electronics shop in Savar, but the shopkeeper did not want to pay. In exchange for that money, the victim`s husband was offered to take TV, fridge and other furniture for the house and offered to give the same amount to Mamun.
According to the police officer, the victim`s husband told his wife to bring Mamun`s belongings to the campus because he would be staying there for a few days. The husband called his wife to the campus. The woman arrived at the campus at 9 m. The victim`s husband, Mamun, Mustafiz, and Murad Mir Musharraf Hossain came in front of the hall. At one point, Murad took the victim`s husband to room number 317 of block A of the hall, tied him up and beat him. Later, Mustafiz and Mamun took the woman to the forest near the botanical garden adjacent to Mir Musharraf Hossain Hall of the university and raped her. The woman and her husband were released after about an hour and a half. They first went to Ashulia Police Station and later to Savar Model Police Station to demand justice for the incident.
The police of Savar Model Police Station and Ashulia Police Station jointly started the investigation in this incident, said Md. Abdullahil Kafi.
