At least six arson attacks were recorded in 24 hours till 6 am on Monday during the 48-hour blockade called by BNP and like-minded parties to press home their one point demand to hold the next national polls under a neutral government, reports UNB.
A total of 10 vehicles were set on fire by miscreants during the period and one of those was set ablaze in Dhaka’s Jatrabari area under Mayor Hanif Flyover, said Shahjahan Shikdar, deputy director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Media Cell.
Five buses, four trucks and one covered van were burnt during this period, he said.
One each vehicle was burnt in Dhaka city, Naogaon, Kishoreganj, Khagrachhari, Dinajpur, Rajshahi and Sylhet and three buses in Natore.
Fifteen firefighting units and 75 members of the fire service were engaged in dousing the flames in the places.
So far, 218 vehicles have been set on fire during the blockade and hartal from October 29 to November 27, according to police headquarters.
