Awami League leader Gas Babu remanded for seven days

In connection with the abduction case aimed at murdering Anwarul Azim Anar, MP of Jhenaidah-4 constituency, the court has granted a seven-day remand for Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu, also known as Gas Babu, the Relief and Social Welfare Secretary of the Jhenaidah District Awami League.

On Sunday morning, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehdi Hasan approved the remand following a hearing based on a police application requesting a ten-day remand.

Earlier, on Thursday night, Gas Babu was arrested by a team from the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) from the Adarshapara area in Jhenaidah town.

On May 22, Mumtarin Ferdous Doreen, daughter of MP Anar, filed a case at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in the capital, alleging an abduction with intent to kill.

Meanwhile, Kolkata detectives, accompanied by members of the Indian Navy, continue their search for Anar‍‍`s body parts in Nepal. On Sunday morning, the Kolkata police, along with Syam, who was arrested in Nepal, conducted a search operation in Kolkata‍‍`s Krishnamati Bagjola Canal, recovering several bone fragments. These have been sent for forensic examination.
