Three individuals have been apprehended from Dhaka allegedly engaged in kidney trafficking to India. The arrests come following a complaint lodged by a victim named Rubin.
Confirming the development, Additional Commissioner Dr. Khondkar Mahid Uddin addressed the media at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media Center on Sunday afternoon.
"These apprehended individuals were connected to the illegal organ trafficking network in neighboring countries. So far, they have admitted to initially luring around 10 individuals to India," stated Uddin.
According to Uddin, initially, the laborers were promised jobs abroad. However, when they refused to sell their kidneys under various temptations, they were coerced through different means. The price was negotiated between 3 to 5 lakh taka.
The apprehension of these individuals marks a significant step in curbing the illegal organ trade network, bringing relief to potential victims and their families.
As Mother’s Day approaches, such operations bring hope for a safer society, ensuring that families remain intact and individuals are not exploited for profit.
