A passenger train and a cargo train crashed this afternoon in Kishoreganj`s Bhairab upazila, resulting in at least 17 deaths and numerous injuries.
Around 3:30 pm on Monday, a container train traveling towards Chattogram collided with the Dhaka-bound Egarosindhur Express, according to Sirajul Islam, duty officer at Bhairab Railway Police Station.

Seventeen bodies have so far been recovered, said Shahjahan Shikdar, deputy assistant director (media cell) of Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Abdul Alim Sikder, the Bhairab Railway Police Station`s officer-in-charge, informed the media that the death toll might rise.

Rescuers from police, fire service and Rab pulled out many bodies from inside the wreckage of the two badly mangled compartments.
