The body of Humayun Kabir (39), the assistant master of the ferry `Rajnigandha` which sank in Padma river in Paturia, Manikganj was recovered by the fire service after 6 days of being missing.
His body was found floating in Bahadurpur area of Padma river in neighboring Harirampur upazila, 13 kilometers away from Paturia ghat on Monday (January 22) around 4:30 pm.
Deputy Assistant Director of Manikganj Fire Service Mohammad Abdul Hamid Miah confirmed the matter.
He said that bulkhead drivers traveling in Bahadurpur area of Harirampur in Manikganj saw a body floating in the river and called the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTC). On receiving the information, the members of the fire service took a speedboat and went to inspect. After taking a picture of the body and sending it to the BIWTC authorities, they identified the body of Rajnigandha Assistant Engine Master Humayan Kabir.
Abdul Hamid Miah said, "The body of the deceased is being taken to Paturia ferry ghat. After that it will be explained to the police and BIWTC authorities".
He said that the body will be handed over to the family members of the deceased after the legal process.
It is to be noted that the ferry departing from Daulatdia Ghat on Wednesday (January 17) sank at around 8:30 am, about 300 meters away from Paturia No. 5 Ferry Ghat with nine small and big vehicles and 21 people including the driver-helper. In this incident, 20 people were rescued alive, but the ferry`s assistant engine master Humayan Kabir went missing.
