Case filed against NCP leaders in Jhenaidah

A case has been filed against several leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party in Jhenaidah amid growing tensions between the party and Chhatra Dal.

The case was lodged with Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station on Saturday by former district Chhatra Dal vice-president Md Enamul Kabir.

NCP central joint general secretary Tarekul Islam Tarek Reza was named the main accused in the case.

Besides 22 named individuals, another 50 to 60 unidentified people were also accused.

According to the complaint, the case was filed over alleged defamatory remarks made during a political speech in Jhenaidah targeting BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and other local leaders.

Police said the case was recorded under relevant sections of the Penal Code after receiving the written complaint.

Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Asaduzzaman said police are investigating the matter and conducting operations to arrest the accused.

Earlier, NCP leaders had filed another case against more than 100 Chhatra Dal leaders and activists in the district, escalating political tensions between the two groups.
