RAB has arrested content creator Ripon Mia in connection with a case filed over the alleged rape of a 13-year-old schoolgirl in Netrokona Sadar. A team from RAB-14 in Mymensingh arrested him on Thursday night.
Mymensingh RAB`s Sadar Company Commander, Major Mir Ishtiaq Amin, confirmed the arrest. He said Ripon Mia was arrested in Gouripur during a raid conducted on Thursday night based on intelligence and information obtained through information technology. He was later handed over to Netrokona Model Police Station.
Earlier, on Tuesday night, the victim`s father filed a case with Netrokona Model Police Station, naming Ripon Mia as the prime accused along with eight unidentified individuals. Following the filing of the case, Ripon reportedly went into hiding to evade arrest.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Khayer of Netrokona Model Police Station said that on Monday night, a local arbitration meeting was held at a BNP party office in a nearby market over the incident. The meeting decided to fine Ripon Mia Tk 500,000 and order him to leave the area. Several video clips of the arbitration later circulated on social media, drawing widespread attention.
According to local residents and the victim`s family, the incident took place on the evening of August 1. They alleged that while the girl was cooking in the courtyard of her home, Ripon forcibly took her to a nearby wooded area and raped her. At the time, both of her parents were away from home for work. Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the scene, prompting Ripon to flee.
