DMP to join team regulating market to curb prices of commodities: DMP Commissioner

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman on Thursday said that the police are active to stop any illegal activities including syndicates in the market.

He also said that the government is always sincere in regulating the market. The team of the DMP is active to root out any syndicate and any bad activity as it has the ability to break any syndicate.

The DMP Commissioner came up with the remarks in a discussion meeting with the representatives of business organisations to determine the reasons for the abnormal increase in the prices of daily necessities and the non-effectiveness of the prices set by the government. The meeting was held at the DMP headquarters in the city.

In his speech, the DMP Commissioner also said that Bangladesh is third in the world in the production of fish, rice and vegetables as well as first in the world in the production of hilsa fish.

“The price condition in the country is not supposed to be like this. What happened was a lack of coordination. If everyone works together, if everyone cooperates, it is definitely possible to control the market,” he said.

The Commissioner also said that the DMP will also participate in the market monitoring along with the Commerce Ministry, the Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection and the city corporations.

Conducted by Joint Commissioner (Operations) of the DMP Biplab Kumar Sarkar, the meeting was also attended by senior officers of DMP, Police Headquarters, various intelligence agencies, Special Branch, Fire Service, Commerce Ministry, Rapid Action Battalion, Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, Dhaka South City Corporation, Dhaka North City Corporation and representatives of business organisations of different thana areas of Dhaka and officers-in-charge of all police stations of the DMP.
