The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has taken legal action against former Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman and economist Abul Barakat, along with 21 other individuals, for allegedly embezzling a massive sum of 287 crore taka through loan fraud and forgery.

On Thursday, February 20, the case was filed at the ACC’s Dhaka office.

Mohammad Nazmul Hossain, the commission’s Deputy Director, officially filed the lawsuit.

The case claims that the accused individuals worked together to create false records and deceive the authorities, leading to the theft of 297 crore 38 lakh 87 thousand 296 taka from the Janata PLC building branch.

Mohammad Akter Hossain, the Director General of ACC’s Prevention Division, confirmed the development to BBC Bangla.

He revealed that the charges include fraudulent activities that enabled the illegal withdrawal of large sums of money.

The investigation into the case is expected to progress as the commission continues its pursuit of justice.
