Former lawmaker from Bogura-2 (Shibganj) Shariful Islam Jinnah has been arrested by Detective Branch (DB) police from the capital.

Officials said he was picked up from the Ramna area in the early hours of Saturday following a tip-off.
Bogra DB officer-in-charge Md Iqbal Bahar said Jinnah faces multiple cases, including charges related to murder and explosives.

He will be produced before a court and later sent to jail.

Police and local sources said Jinnah is a presidium member of the Jatiya Party and also heads its Bogura district unit.

He was elected three times as a member of parliament from the constituency under the Awami League-led alliance.

According to investigators, he had been on the run since mid-2024 amid cases linked to the anti-discrimination student movement.

Despite being absconding, he contested the 13th parliamentary election from the same seat as a Jatiya Party candidate.

Police said several cases, including one under the Explosives Act, have been filed against him at Shibganj Police Station.
