Ex-state minister Arafat detained

Mohammad A. Arafat, the former Minister of State for Information, has been detained. 

He was held on Tuesday (August 27) from Gulshan area of Dhaka, confirmed Dhaka Metropolitan Police sources.

Arafat, an Awami League candidate, won the Dhaka-17 seat in the 12th National Parliament election and subsequently took the oath as Minister of State in Sheikh Hasina‍‍`s new cabinet.

Before this, he was elected Member of Parliament for the first time after defeating Hero Alam in the by-election of Dhaka-17 constituency in July 2023.

On August 20 this year, a case was filed against Arafat in the death of a vegetable seller in Rangpur.
