The High Court has directed that all videos related to the recent sexual assault incident in Muradnagar, Cumilla, be removed from social media platforms within 24 hours.
The court also instructed authorities to ensure the victim’s security and provide her with necessary medical treatment.
The directive came on Sunday, June 29, from a High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Khatun and Justice Syed Zahid Mansur, following a public interest litigation filed by Supreme Court lawyer Mir AKM Nurunnabi.
The petitioner personally presented the case during the hearing. Deputy Attorney General Tanim Khan and Assistant Attorney General Ikramul Kabir represented the state.
Speaking to journalists, Nurunnabi stated that the court has ordered the submission of a progress report on the investigation within 15 days, setting the next update for July 14.
Along with the video removal order, the court emphasized the need to ensure the victim`s safety and provide her appropriate care.
The incident, which occurred on June 27, involved a group of men allegedly breaking into the victim’s home and assaulting her.
The prime suspect, Fazor Ali, has already been arrested, along with several others accused of sharing footage of the assault online. All accused are residents of Muradnagar in Cumilla.
