A Dhaka court has scheduled June 12 for the formation of charges against Nobel laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and 13 others in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over allegations of embezzlement.
On Sunday, June 2, Judge Syed Arafat Hossain of Dhaka`s Special Judge Court-4 set the date following a hearing.
Earlier in the day, around 10:30 am, Dr. Muhammad Yunus appeared in court for the hearing.
The accused in the case include Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chairman of Grameen Telecom, Managing Director Md. Nazmul Islam, Director and former Managing Director Md. Ashraful Hasan, Directors Parveen Mahmud, Najnin Sultana, Md. Shahjahan, Nurjahan Begum, Director S.M. Hajjatul Islam Latifi, Advocate Md. Yusuf Ali, Advocate Zafrul Hasan Sharif, Grameen Telecom Workers-Employees Union President Md. Kamruzzaman, General Secretary Firoz Mahmud Hasan, Union Office Secretary Kamrul Hasan, and representative Md. Mainul Islam.
On May 2, the court granted bail to Dr. Muhammad Yunus and the 13 other accused in the ACC case. The hearing for charge formation was then set for June 2.
The case was filed by ACC Deputy Director Gulshan Anwar Pradhan on May 30, 2023, accusing Dr. Muhammad Yunus and others of embezzling 252.2 million BDT from the welfare fund of Grameen Telecom’s workers and employees.
