In a significant ruling, the High Court has cleared the path for the continuation of student politics at Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) while simultaneously suspending the university`s 2019 notification banning student politics on campus.
The verdict was delivered following a writ petition on Monday, with state counsels stating that "Democratic leadership emerges from among students and politics is the fundamental right of the constitution."
The writ petition, filed earlier in the High Court, sought permission for student politics at BUET. It was submitted by Imtiaz Rabbi, a suspended BUET student and leader of Chhatra League.
