Former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Selina Hayat Ivy has been shown arrested in a murder case linked to the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement of 2024, police said on Thursday.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tarek Al Mehedi of Narayanganj confirmed that Ivy was shown arrested in connection with the killing of interior worker Selim Mondal, following a court order earlier in the day.
Police said the Investigating Officer, Sub-Inspector Mashum Billah of Siddhirganj Police Station, submitted a petition to the court citing Ivy’s alleged involvement in the case.
The court approved the petition, and Ivy was formally shown arrested in the afternoon.
According to case records, a fire broke out on July 20, 2024, during the student movement at the Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited branch on Chittagong Road in Siddhirganj.
Three workers, including Selim Mondal, who were doing interior decoration work, were trapped inside and died from burn injuries.
ASP Tarek Al Mehedi said Ivy is currently in jail and has been shown arrested following due legal process.
