A local Jubo League (JL) leader was hacked to death by miscreants in Abhaynagar upazila of Jashore last night, according to police.
Deceased Murad Hossain, 36, was general secretary of ward 4 unit (under Abhaynagar municipality) of Awami League’s youth front.
Confirming the matter, Abhaynagar police station Officer-in-Charge (SM) Atikul Islam said miscreants equipped with locally-made sharp weapons swopped on Murad on his way home from a local market around 10:30 pm, leaving him critically injured.
Hearing his screams, locals rushed to him and first took him to the Upazila Health Complex. He succumbed to his injuries while he was being moved to Khulna Medical College Hospital, the OC said, adding that the body was kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
No case was filed and no one was detained in this connection till Monday morning, the OC said.
Efforts are underway to nab the perpetrators through identification, police officer Atikul added.
