Managing Director of Bashundhara Group, Sayem Sobhan Anvir, along with eight others, has been acquitted in the case involving the rape and murder of college student Mosarat Jahan Munia.

Judge Shaukat Ali of Dhaka‍‍`s Women and Child Suppression Tribunal-8 rejected the plaintiff‍‍`s plea today and accepted the final report submitted by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), issuing this order.

Among the individuals acquitted alongside Anvir are his father Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, mother Afroza Sobhan, wife Sabrina, Sharmin, Saifa Rahman Mim, model Faria Mahbub Piasa, and Ibrahim Ahmed Ripon.

Special Public Prosecutor Mohammad Rezaul Karim confirmed this information.

Mosarat Jahan, also known as Muniya, was a second-year college student in the capital. Her body was discovered on April 26, 2021, in a flat on Road No. 120, Gulshan-2. Following the incident, Munia‍‍`s elder sister Nusrat Jahan filed a case at Gulshan police station under section 306 for incitement to suicide. Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir was initially the sole accused in the case. However, the police submitted a final report to the court stating that the charges against Anvir were not proven.

On September 6, 2021, Munia‍‍`s elder sister Nusrat Jahan filed a case in Dhaka Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal-8. The court accepted the case and directed the PBI to investigate. In 2022, the PBI submitted a final report requesting the exemption of eight individuals, including Bashundhara Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir. Subsequently, Muniya‍‍`s sister Nusrat Jahan filed a complaint against this report.

Following the hearing on March 10, the court issued its order today.
