Murder case filed against Feni’s 3 ex-MPs over attack during anti-discrimination student protest

A new case has been filed in connection with the fatal shooting of a student during an anti-discrimination protest at Mohipal in Feni, allegedly carried out by members of the Awami League. The case names Masud Uddin Chowdhury, former MP of Feni-3, as the main accused, along with recently former MP of Feni-1, Alauddin Ahmed Chowdhury Nasim, former MP of Feni-2, and General Secretary of Feni District Awami League, Nizam Uddin Hazari.

A total of 301 individuals have been accused, including 151 known Awami League leaders and activists and 150 unidentified persons. This brings the number of murder cases filed in Feni to six.

On Tuesday, August 20, Mahfuza Akter, the mother of the deceased student Wakil Ahmed Sihab (17), filed the case at Feni Model Police Station. Sihab was the son of Sirajul Islam from South Kashimpur village in Feni Sadar Upazila and was a student of class 9 at Jaylaskar School.

The incident occurred when the accused allegedly launched an unprovoked attack with explosives and firearms during a protest and sit-in program under the Mohipal flyover, part of the central anti-discrimination student movement. Sihab was shot in front of Mohipal Plaza and fell to the ground. The attackers then reportedly beat him with sticks, iron rods, and the butts of rifles, ensuring his death.

Muhammad Ruhul Amin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Feni Model Police Station, stated that the police have initiated an investigation into the separate cases filed regarding the incident. He assured that necessary legal actions will be taken against those involved.
