A case has been filed against 62 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former lawmaker Shamim Osman, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, in connection with the murder of a fish trader in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, during the recent student movement.
The deceased Md Milon`s wife, Shahnaz Begum, filed the murder case with Siddhirganj police station late on Sunday.
With this, Hasina is facing over a dozen cases, according to media reports.
Other accused include Shamim Osman`s son Ayon Osman, his nephew Azmeri Osman and Narayanganj metropolitan Awami League Organizing Secretary Shah Nizam.
According to the case statement, on July 21, to disrupt the student movement, leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations, armed with firearms, cocktails and sticks, created obstacles to traffic on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway and spread terror among the public.
It says Hasina, Quader and Asaduzzaman allegedly ordered the other accused to randomly shoot and attack protesting students and the public. The accused caused explosions with cocktails, creating fear, and then used their weapons to randomly shoot and assault the people present on the road.
During this time, around noon, Milon, who was returning home from a local fish market, was shot in the chest and collapsed on the road.
He was taken to Pro-Active Medical College and Hospital in the area, where the attending doctor declared him dead.
Earlier, on Saturday, another murder case was filed with Narayanganj Sadar model police station against 48 people, including Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader and Shamim Osman, by Abul Bashar, the elder brother of the deceased Abul Hasan, 20, fatally shot just hours before Hasina’s resignation on August 5.
