The International Crimes Tribunal has published a notification through the media, directing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to surrender by June 24.
This order comes despite arrest warrants having already been issued against them, as both remain absconding.
The notice was published in the National Daily on Tuesday, June 17.
According to the notice, Sheikh Hasina—daughter of the late Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Fazilatunnesa, and wife of Dr. M. A. Wazed Miah, residing at Sudha Sadan, House No. 54, Road No. 5, Dhanmondi, Dhaka-1209—and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal—son of Ashraf Ali Khan and Akramun Nesha, residing at Holding No. 136/1, Gate No. 06, Monipuri Para, Tejgaon, Dhaka—have been formally charged under Section 9(1) of the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973.
The Tribunal Chief Prosecutor submitted the formal charges, which have been accepted by the Tribunal. Despite the issuance of arrest warrants, both accused persons are evading arrest and are in hiding.
In accordance with Rule 31 of the International Crimes (Tribunal-1) Procedural Rules, 2010 (Amended 2025), the Tribunal has ordered the accused to surrender to the court by June 24. Failure to comply will result in the trial proceeding in their absence.
