At least 28 people were killed and scores of others injured in a tripartite clash involving protestors, Awami League members, and police in parts of the country on Sunday.

So far (up to 4 pm) 5 people in Feni, 4 people in Sirajganj, 3 people in Munshiganj, 3 people in Bogra, 3 people in Magura, 3 people in Bhola, 3 people in Rangpur, 2 people in Pabna, 1 person in Comilla and 1 person in Barisal were killed.

In Munshiganj, the identities of the deceased, both aged around 30 and 35, were not immediately known.

The brawl erupted amid the ongoing ‍‍`all-out non-cooperation‍‍` movement across the country.

Following the incident, a tense situation has prevailed in and around the district town.

According to UNB’s district correspondent, protesters began gathering at the Muktijoddha Sculpture near the SuperMarket area around 10 a.m. as planned.

Shortly after, members of the ruling Awami League’s student body, Chhatra League, and youth wing, Jubo League, equipped with weapons, chased the protesters and took control of the area.

Enraged, the protesters regrouped and retaliated, leading to a series of chases and counter-chases.

At one point, police arrived at the scene and allegedly began firing rubber bullets, using batons, and launching tear gas, resulting in several injuries.

The injured were later rushed to Munshiganj Sadar Hospital, where physicians declared two of them dead. Several crude bombs were also reportedly exploded during the clash.

District Deputy Commissioner Md Abu Jafar Ripon confirmed the deaths of two people in the clash. He noted that police had been instructed not to fire, but they did so nonetheless.
