Three people were killed and another critically injured when a speeding private car overturned on the Dhaka–Mawa Expressway in Srinagar upazila of Munshiganj early Thursday morning.
The accident occurred around 6:00am near the Sholo Ghor passenger shed area, confirmed Srinagar Highway Police and Fire Service Station Officer Dewan Azad.
According to police, the private car was heading towards Dhaka from Mawa when one of its tires burst, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle hit the road divider, killing two passengers on the spot.
Two others were rescued in critical condition and rushed to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared one of them dead. The remaining passenger is undergoing treatment in critical condition.
Dewan Azad said traffic on the Dhaka-bound lane of the expressway was disrupted for about an hour following the accident. Highway police and fire service personnel later carried out a rescue operation, after which vehicular movement returned to normal.
Hasara police outpost in-charge Abdul Kader Jilani told media that the damaged car has been removed from the road. He added that the victims’ identities were not immediately available.
