At least five people were killed and 15 others injured in a tragic road accident in Ghioraghat upazila of Dinajpur early Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 4:00 am on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway in the Nurjahanpur area under Ghioraghat municipality, confirmed Nazmul Haque, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ghioraghat Police Station.
According to police, a truck loaded with mangoes had broken down and was parked on the roadside. A Dhaka-bound bus of Nabil Paribahan, which had departed from Panchagarh, rammed into the stationary truck from behind.
Three people died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries after being taken to the hospital. At least 15 passengers sustained injuries, some of them critically.
Police, army personnel, and fire service teams rushed to the scene immediately after the accident to carry out rescue operations and transport the injured to nearby hospitals.
The identities of the deceased and the injured could not be confirmed immediately. Authorities are working to identify the victims and further investigate the cause of the accident.
