5 killed as bus rams stationary three-wheeler in Faridpur

A tragic road accident in Bhanga, Faridpur, claimed the lives of five people, including a father and son, when a passenger bus rammed into a stationary three-wheeler on the Dhaka–Barisal Highway. The incident occurred around 7:00 AM on Wednesday near the Chumurdi Bus Stand area.

According to police, the three-wheeler was en route from Bhanga to Tekerhat and had pulled over to drop off passengers when a Barisal-bound bus, reportedly traveling at high speed, collided with it from behind.

Four people died on the spot, while one more succumbed to injuries later at the hospital. Four others were injured in the crash, three of whom were later transferred in critical condition to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The victims, all male, include a 70-year-old man and his 40-year-old son from Madhabchar village in Shibchar, Madaripur; a 50-year-old man from Chowkighata village in Faridpur’s Gharia Union; and a 50-year-old man from the same Shibchar area. The identity of the fifth deceased remains unknown at the time of reporting.

Emergency responders from the highway police and fire service reached the scene promptly to rescue the injured and recover the bodies. Local medical authorities confirmed the fatalities and ongoing treatment of the injured.

Police reported that the bus involved in the collision has been seized, though the driver managed to flee the scene. An investigation into the incident is underway.
