Dengue has taken a deadly turn this month, as the mosquito-borne disease claimed 28 lives in the first five days in November. The dengue situation across the country has aggravated over the last month.
The number of patients admitted to the hospital due to dengue fever is increasing every day. Three people died of dengue fever in the last 24 hours on Sunday. As a result, 29 people died in the first 6 days of November.
The matter was revealed by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday afternoon, causing citizens to panic as hospitals become overwhelmed with the rising number of dengue patients.
Of the latest deaths, two were reported from Dhaka and one from Chittagong division.
The new figures raised the death toll in Dhaka division to 105, and in Chittagong division to 43.
Of the new patients, 476 were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and 432 outside it, according to the DGHS.
A total of 3,368 dengue patients, including 2,042 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
The health department has recorded 43,107 dengue cases and 39, 569 recoveries so far this year.
On Thursday, Bangladesh reported nine dengue deaths, the highest death toll from dengue in a day this year.
Govt. sets new rates for dengue tests in public hospitals
Meanwhile, the government has fixed the fee for a dengue detection test, known as NS1, at Tk 100 at state-run hospitals, while private hospitals are allowed to charge a maximum of Tk 300.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque disclosed the new rates after a seminar in Dhaka on Sunday.
