Jamaat leader gets 17-yr jail

Jhenaidah court has sentenced Muabia Hossain, 58 a local Jamaat-e-Islami leader to 17 years in jail in an arms act case.

The prosecution claims that on February 22, 2016, police detained Muabia, who was once the vice-chairman of the Kotchandpur upazila parishad. Police recovered a gun and six rounds of bullets in Sulemanpur area based on the interrogation.  

At the Kotchandpur Police Station, a case was afterwards filed against him.  After the investigation, police submitted a chargesheet to the court on May 25, 2016.

After examining the records and witnesses, the court handed down the judgment," said Public Prosecutor Ismail Hossain Badshah.
