In Kurigram's Sadar upazila on Wednesday night, a 70-year-old man was beaten to death over the cutting down of a tree, allegedly by his neighbor.
The victim's older sister, on the other hand, also passed away after witnessing the attack.
Abul Kalam Azad was identified as the deceased; Sakina Begum, her older sister, was 75. They were residents of Raipur village in the upazila's Kathalbari union.
Locals and police reported that on Wednesday afternoon, Abul and his neighbor Dulal Mia got into a fight over chopping branches off a mango tree next to their home.
Around nine o'clock, Dulal allegedly attacked Abul in his home with sharp objects and sticks.
He was taken by ambulance to Kurigram General Hospital, where medical staff immediately declared him dead.
According to Md Shahriar, the officer in charge of the Kurigram Sadar police station, Sakina collapsed after seeing the attack carried out on her brother by the neighbour.
She was later taken to the hospital and declared dead there, according to the OC.
According to him, four people have been detained in relation to this.
