The MAG Osmani medical college in Sylhet has been submerged by the flood water after an hour-long heavy rain on Saturday. Authorities shut off the power supply due to the flood which created disruption in providing medical facilities including surgery and ICU services.
The flood water started entering the hospital since 12 pm Saturday prompting the authorities to stop the generator machine that supplies electricity after Sylhet went into a massive blackout.
Confirming the matter Osmani Medical College Hospital director Brigadier General Mahbubu Rahman said, “We are trying. We requested the higher authority to bring the special generator which was gifted by the prime minister to the city corporation. If we get it, at least, we can run the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and surgery department.
As many as 1 thousand 760 patients were admitted till Saturday morning. The number is likely to increase, he said.
