Political parties condole Khaleda Zia‍‍`s death

Leaders of different political parties have expressed deep condolences over the death of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. 

Begum Khaleda Zia, widely regarded as an uncompromising leader for democracy in Bangladesh, died this morning at the age of 80 while undergoing treatment at a city hospital.

In a post on his Facebook account today, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, ‍‍`We deeply mourn the death of our Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia (Inna Lillahi wa inna Ilaihi raji‍‍`un)."

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the demise of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. 

In a condolence message, he said Begum Khaleda Zia made significant contributions to Bangladesh‍‍`s democratic movement and struggle. 

"Her role in the restoration of multi-party democracy, the people‍‍`s right to vote and the movement against dictatorship will be remembered in history," he said.

The Jamaat ameer said Khaleda Zia has left a unique identity in the country‍‍`s political arena for her strong leadership and firm political stance. 

"The nation will remember Begum Khaleda Zia‍‍`s contribution to the anti-hegemonic movement and struggle with respect. I express my deep shock and condolences at her death," he said.

He added "May Allah Almighty forgive her mistakes and grant her Jannatul Firdous, and grant her bereaved family, relatives and colleagues the strength to endure this difficult time, Ameen."

National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam posted on Facebook, expressing condolence over the death of Begum Khaleda Zia. 

"Her courageous leadership in the anti-dictatorship movement showed the path to the people of this country to achieve democratic rights. She played an outstanding role in establishing a parliamentary system of government in Bangladesh after the mass uprising of the 1990s and restoring a democratic environment." 

In her long political life, Nahid said, she was incarcerated many times and went through ups and downs, but she was firm on the issue of her political ideology and the people‍‍`s rights.

He said Khaleda Zia was uncompromising on the issue of the sovereignty of the country and the nation. 

"The memory of Begum Khaleda Zia‍‍`s contribution and struggle to establish democracy in Bangladesh will surely be preserved. Her long political life dedicated to the welfare of the country and its people will remain as an inspiration to future generations. Today, a long and eventful chapter in the political history of Bangladesh has come to an end with her passing," he added.

The NCP convener prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul of Begum Khaleda Zia and expressed his deep sympathy to Khaleda Zia‍‍`s bereaved family and followers. 

Chief Coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon Zonayed Saki in a Facebook post expressed shock at the death of Begum Khaleda Zia.

In a condolence message, Bangladesh Labour Party chairman Dr Mustafizur Rahman Iran expressed deep sorrow and shock at the death of Khaleda Zia.

He sought eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family, her well-wishers and the country‍‍`s people. 

Janata Party Bangladesh (JPB) has expressed deep shock at the demise of Khaleda Zia.

In a condolence message, JPB acting chairman Golam Sarwar Milon and acting secretary general Md Asaduzzaman sought eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family and well-wishers.
