BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia passed away while her eldest son and BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman was by her bedside at Evercare Hospital on Tuesday morning
At the time of her death, other close family members were also present there, party sources said.
They included Tarique Rahman’s wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, their daughter Zaima Rahman, and Shameela Rahman Sithi, wife of her late younger son Arafat Rahman Koko.
Among other relatives, Khaleda Zia’s younger brother Shamim Eskander and his wife, as well as her elder sister Selina Islam, were at the hospital during her final moments. Some other family members were also present there.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was at the hospital at that time. Members of the medical board formed for Khaleda Zia’s treatment were also present.
Begum Khaleda Zia, a three-time former prime minister and BNP chairperson, passed away at 6 am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.
She was admitted to the hospital on November 23. As her condition worsened on November 27 she was shifted to the ICU where she remained on life support until her death.
Born on August 15, 1945, Khaleda Zia was Bangladesh’s first woman prime minister and the second woman prime minister in the Muslim world after Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan.
