The United States is monitoring reports of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia‍‍`s deteriorating health. Spokesperson Matthew Miller said these things in the regular briefing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country.

The spokesperson said, "We are monitoring the news of Khaleda Zia‍‍`s health deterioration. We urge the Bangladesh government to ensure a fair and transparent legal process for Khaleda Zia. I have nothing more to say about the (Bangladesh) internal legal process."

Leaders and activists of the opposition party are being arrested ahead of the 28th October BNP convention. At the same time, raids are being conducted at the entrance of Dhaka. This issue has also been brought to the attention of the US State Department.

When asked about this, Matthew Miller said, "Our comment is that we believe the upcoming elections should be free, fair and peaceful."

Miller was asked, "During the visit of US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Afreen Akhter to Dhaka, anti-government speakers in various talk shows said that the US has set a deadline for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign by November 3. They claim that the US administration is on the side of the opposition. Will you confirm or deny the claim?"

In response, Miller said, "I will only say that we do not take any particular side in the internal political affairs of any country."

A question was asked regarding the blockade planned by the opposition party BNP  on October. "BNP asked their violent supporters to join the Dhaka siege. The party has a record of political violence. The leader of the group, Tariq Rahman, is accused and absconding. A former US ambassador called him a ‍‍`symbol of violence‍‍` in Bangladesh. What is your opinion about the political program of BNP in this situation?"

Miller did not give a clear answer to this question. He only said, "I will comment on this later."
