123 orgs enforced 1,604 blockades since interim took office: Home adviser

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that since the interim government assumed office, a total of 123 organizations have enforced 1,604 blockades across the country, causing severe traffic congestion.

He made the remarks on Sunday afternoon following a meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order.

The adviser noted that designated grounds exist for protests and demonstrations, yet many groups occupy roads instead. “When even a part of the road is blocked, it triggers gridlock across the entire city, increasing public suffering,” he said.

Chowdhury further stressed the need for political unity, saying, “The unity that emerged among political parties after the government stepped down must be maintained. One particular party is trying to thwart the election, and this must be dealt with. A faction of them is still active.”

He also announced that election-related training for law enforcement agencies will begin on September 7. “This program will be widely publicized on that day, and members of the media will be invited,” he added.
