‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ premieres at Cannes on July 7

Internationally acclaimed Bangladeshi filmmaker Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s second feature film ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ was selected in the competitive “Un Certain Regard” section of the 74th Cannes Film Festival on June 3. The film will is set for its world premiere on July 7 and 8 at the prestigious festival.

The film’s eight-member crew includes Sound engineer Sayba Talukder, colourist Chinmoy, production designer Uzzal, cinematographer Tuhin, executive producer Babu, co-producer Mohajon, actor Azmeri Haque Badhon and director Abdullah Mohammad Saad have all reached Paris on June 25.

Penned, edited and directed by Saad, this is the first Bangladeshi film to have been officially selected at the festival. 

Previously, the late Bangladeshi director Tareque Masud’s ‘Matir Moyna’ was screened at the Director's Fortnight segment (out of competition segment) of the 55th Cannes.

The film’s storyline revolves around a private medical college’s Assistant professor, Rehana, who single-handedly wages a fight for justice on behalf of her 6-year-old daughter and one of her college students.

Rajib Mohajan, Sydul Haque Khandaker, Adnan Habib co-produced the film. Cinematographer Tuhin Tamijul shot the film. Ali Afjal Uzzal and Sayba Talukder completed the production design and the sound design, respectively.

The Bangladesh, Singapore and Qatar co-production stars Azmeri Haque Badhon, Afia Jahin Jaima, Afia Tabassum Borno, Kazi Sami Hossain, Yasir Al Haq, Saberi Alam, Abrodit Chowdhury and others in central characters.

‘Live from Dhaka,’ was director Saad’s 2016 directorial debut, which won the Best Actor and Best Director awards at the Singapore International Film Festival and was officially selected and screened at various major international film festivals across the globe.
